The warranty is only as good as the installer.
The same GAF shingle carries a very different warranty depending on who installs it. Only a Master Elite contractor can register System Plus.

GAF Timberline HDZ is rated for 30 years; in Wisconsin and Iowa, with proper installation, ridge venting, and a full ice and water shield system, realistic lifespan is 25 to 35 years. Without correct ventilation, real-world life often drops to 18 to 22 years, which is why install quality matters as much as the shingle.
For most homes, Timberline HDZ is the benchmark, strong wind and algae resistance and 50-year warranty eligibility. Standard architectural shingles handle typical weather well, but in hail-prone areas an impact-resistant (Class 4) shingle like GAF Timberline CS, or the heavier Camelot II, adds protection and may qualify for an insurance premium discount. We’ll tell you whether it’s worth it for your location and policy.
