    Water getting in?

Hail damage roof repair in Waukesha.

Hail and wind damage rarely shows from the driveway. Bruised shingles, granule loss at the impact points, dented gutter aprons and creased tabs are visible only from the roof, so we get up there and into the attic and photograph every slope. On a covered storm claim you normally pay just your deductible.

    01

    Free storm inspection

We document hail bruising, creased shingles, failed flashing, overflow marks and wet decking from the roof and the attic before a claim is filed.

    02

    Open the claim with you

Photos, moisture findings, and a written scope go to your carrier together, so the claim starts complete.

    03

    Adjuster walk-through

Hail and water damage are both easy to undercount. We show the adjuster every bruised slope, entry point and stained rafter so the scope covers all of it.

    04

    Rebuild, then recover depreciation

Once the new roof is on, we send the final invoice to your carrier so the remaining depreciation payment can be released.

    Why Waukesha calls Buckshot

Insurance claim help for Waukesha homeowners.

Buckshot has roofed southeastern Wisconsin since 1979 with employee crews rather than subcontractors. We document the damage, file the claim, meet your adjuster on the roof, and pursue a supplement when the first scope misses work the roof needs. You pay the deductible and we handle the rest.

    • GAF Master Elite certified. Only about 2% of US roofers hold it, and it is what lets us register the 50-year System Plus warranty on a Waukesha home.
    • We meet the adjuster ourselves. Hail, wind and water claims turn on detail. We work with five carrier programs and walk the roof and the attic with your adjuster ourselves.
    • Our own people, start to finish. The crew that inspects your roof is the crew that installs it and comes back if anything leaks.
    • Verifiable credentials. FORTIFIED, BBB A+, NRCA, WRCA, UASRC, InterNACHI, IICRC, and WI license DC-080900045.

      BUILT TO TAKE A HIT

Composite and impact-rated shingles in Waukesha.

Most Waukesha roofs go back on with composite architectural shingles, which are laminated asphalt built up in layers rather than a single flat tab. GAF Timberline HDZ is the standard choice here. Class 4 impact-rated versions cost more and are worth pricing on exposed lots.

      • Class 4 impact-rated shingles carry the UL 2218 Class 4 rating, an option worth pricing on open, exposed lots.
      • GAF Timberline HDZ & UHDZ with LayerLock nailing that keeps tabs sealed down when gusts drive rain sideways.
      • Leak barrier membrane, synthetic underlayment, and sealed flashing so the places water collects, valleys, chimneys, and vents, stay watertight.
      • Bare-deck inspection because a wet season can rot sheathing you cannot see, and new shingles on a soft deck will not last.

Standard shingles vs Class 4 on a Waukesha roof

Class 4 is a judgment call in Waukesha rather than an automatic upgrade. It pays off on open, exposed lots and with carriers that credit a Class 4 roof against your premium. Ask your agent what that credit is worth, and we will price standard and Class 4 side by side.

      BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Roof repair or roof replacement in Waukesha?

Start with the decking, then the shingles. Water at a single flashing or valley with firm deck underneath is a repair. Soft decking in several places, storm damage across roughly a third of the slopes, or shingles near twenty years old means replacement is the better spend and the stronger claim. You get the reasoning in writing, with photos.
      Lean toward repairOne entry point
      • Water came in at a single flashing, valley, or pipe boot
      • The stain stopped once that spot was sealed
      • Decking around the leak is still firm
      • Shingles lie flat and hold their granules
      • The roof has well over a decade of life left
Lean toward replacementWater in several places
      • Leaks show up in new rooms after each heavy rain
      • Soft or delaminated decking in more than one area
      • Storm damage spread across several slopes
      • Shingles are close to 20 years old

Hail and wind damage on a Waukesha roof

      Overflowing gutters

Water pouring over the front edge in a hard rain means the gutters or downspouts are undersized or clogged.

      Stains after every storm

A ceiling spot that grows each time it rains means water is getting past the roof, not just condensing.

      Soft spots underfoot

Decking that flexes when we walk it has been soaking up water for a while.

      Creased or lifted shingles

Wind breaks the seal strip and leaves a crease across the tab. Once that seal is gone, rain gets underneath it.

      Leaking flashing

Water running down a chimney or sidewall usually starts at flashing that has pulled away.

      Bruised shingles and dented metals

Hail knocks granules off in soft circular bruises, and dents the gutter apron, vents and flashing before anything shows inside.

      Where we work

A Waukesha roofing contractor since 1979.

Our Waukesha crews work every neighborhood in the city, from Downtown and Frame Park to Saratoga, and the towns around it. Brookfield, New Berlin, Pewaukee, Menomonee Falls, Sussex, and Oconomowoc, get the same crews, the same water-first inspection, and the same GAF Master Elite warranty.

Waukesha sits on the Fox River, and a storm parked over the county gives the rain nowhere to go. Roofs fail at the seams, where valleys overflow and flashing lets go, and hail runs the same corridor most springs. Every Buckshot reroof here gets ice and water membrane, sealed flashing and balanced attic ventilation.

      What really wrecks roofs here

      Water first, winter second.

Waukesha’s most damaging storms are often not hail at all. When a slow summer system parks over the county, inches of rain can fall in a few hours, and the roofs that fail are the ones whose valleys, flashing and gutters cannot move that much water.

Winter brings the second test, when snow melts against a cold eave and refreezes into ice dams that back water under the shingles. Buckshot answers with properly lapped valleys and flashing, sealed eaves, right-sized gutters, and balanced attic ventilation.

When the big storms came through the Madison-area in April 2026, I immediately started looking for a reputable roofer—who also understood the importance of weather-resistant materials that can withstand hail and wind. It didn’t take me long to find Brad from BCG. We had damage that needed to be repaired before the next round of storms came through later that day and Brad had a crew out within hours. Our neighbors also had damage, and when their roofing company didn’t show up, Brad and his crew also took on fixing their damage on the spot. The contracting process was done over email and we were able to clearly understand all of the options available to us. On the day of install, the crew was efficient and fast with their work. But also, mistakes can happen. And what matters to us is not that there’s perfection (because that’s not realistic), but how a contractor deals with a mistake. As they were taking down the tarps when they were finished with the roof, one of our lights next to the garage broke. Brad helped find a replacement online and had it shipped directly to our house! Such great service! All in all, we were very happy with Brad and the service we received from him and BCG. We’ve since recommended their services to several of our friends and neighbors who also had storm damage. While I hope we won’t have to do that again for a long time, we would work with BCG again in a heartbeat!

I am extremely pleased with the service Matt Walmer from Buckshot General Contracting (BGC) provided for me during the hailstorm damage in Madison in April. I had just switched insurance companies one year ago and was worried about how much they would cover. Matt assured me everything would be taken care of and had nothing to worry about. True to his word he immediately answered phone calls during off hours even when he was with daughter at volleyball and answering texts in seconds Matt met up with assessor and arrived 20 minutes early. During roof replacement he stopped in 3 times to check the progress and next day he came back to do a walk around to make sure the cleanup was to his standards. I have been so blessed to work with Matt at BGC as my contractor as everything went so smoothly. No problems with my insurance company and I was the first one on my block to get my roof done. I also was telling Matt about some of my neighbors having problems with their insurance and he was willing to look at their paperwork and giving them advice on how to deal with them. I can proudly say I announced to them how good Matt was and gave them his card. Thank you so much Matt for your excellent service and being a great representative for Buckshot General Contracting. These days days it’s hard to find a business that is 100% committed to making sure the customer is their #1 concern. Going to be doing more work and sticking with them as I know it will be top quality.

We contacted BGC after storm damage and had them completely re-roof and re-side our house, garage, and shed. The entire process was incredibly smooth from start to finish. They were easy to work with, handled all the details, and made what could have been a stressful situation completely worry-free. Our contact, Jayce Kirkland, was outstanding. His professionalism, communication, and courteous demeanor were truly a breath of fresh air. He took care of everything for us and made sure the project stayed on track every step of the way. We couldn’t be happier with the experience and have and would highly recommend BGC to anyone needing roofing or siding work!

Q.01Water stained my ceiling after a heavy rain. Is it the roof?
Not always. After a Waukesha storm the usual suspects are chimney or wall flashing, an overflowing valley, a cracked pipe boot, hail-split shingles, or gutters backing up under the drip edge. Sometimes it is condensation from a poorly vented attic. We start in the attic, trace the water to where it entered, and only then recommend a fix.
Q.02Will insurance pay for water that came in through my roof?
It depends on the cause. Policies generally cover sudden damage, such as wind lifting shingles or a storm tearing flashing loose, and generally exclude slow leaks from wear and rising floodwater. That is why the record matters. We photograph the entry point and the interior damage so your adjuster sees what happened. When it is covered, you typically pay your deductible.
Q.03Do you work in my part of Waukesha County?
Yes. Our crews work across the city, from Downtown Waukesha and the Frame Park and Carroll University neighborhoods to Saratoga, and out to Brookfield, New Berlin, Pewaukee, Menomonee Falls, Sussex, and Oconomowoc. Buckshot is headquartered in Madison and runs Waukesha County jobs directly with our own employees.
Q.04Should I pay extra for Class 4 shingles in Waukesha?
Sometimes. The bigger threat in Waukesha lately has been water, not hail, so Class 4 is not an automatic upgrade. It makes the most sense on open, exposed lots, or when your insurer gives a credit for UL 2218 Class 4 shingles. Ask your carrier what that credit is worth, and we will quote both options side by side.
Q.05Are my gutters big enough for storms like these?
If they overflow in a hard rain, probably not. Many homes still have 5 inch gutters with small downspouts, and a stalled storm can overwhelm them in minutes. A 6 inch seamless system with larger downspouts moves noticeably more water, and extending the downspouts away from the foundation helps keep it out of the basement.
Q.06What does a new roof cost in Waukesha?
Most full replacements fall between $8,500 and $18,000, and a 1,800 square foot home typically comes in at $12,000 to $15,000 using GAF Timberline HDZ. Steepness, the number of old layers to strip, and how much decking the water has ruined move the number. Monthly payment plans, including 0% options, come through Service Finance Company with credit approval.
Q.07Can one leak be fixed, or does the whole roof need to go?
If water got in at a single spot and the decking around it is still solid, fixing that one area is normally enough. If we find soft decking in more than one area, damage spread across the roof, or shingles already close to 20 years old, replacement is the better investment. You get our recommendation in writing.
Q.08Can you stop a leak tonight?
Call (608) 909-9109 any time. The storm line is staffed around the clock, and active leaks get priority for tarping and photos, so the water stops and your claim has a record from the first hour.
Q.09What does GAF Master Elite get me?
A stronger warranty and a vetted installer. GAF grants Master Elite status to roughly 2% of US roofing contractors, and only certified contractors can register the 50-year System Plus warranty on a GAF roof system.
      Q.10What happens on install day?
Most Waukesha reroofs take a single day. We cover landscaping and window wells, strip the old roof to the decking, replace any water-damaged sheets, and install the new system. Before we leave, magnets sweep the yard and driveway for nails.
