    Season by season

Roof care through the Wisconsin seasons.

Roof maintenance in Wisconsin follows the seasons, so tap one to see what our crews watch for.

Spring - catch what winter did

Freeze-thaw and ice dams do their damage in the cold; spring is when we find it.

    • Check the eaves and valleys for ice-dam and freeze-thaw damage
    • Look for cracked or lifted shingles and sealant that failed in the cold
    • Clear winter debris and make sure gutters and downspouts flow before spring rains

Summer - get ahead of storm season

Our hail and wind come in the warm months, so we prep and document before they hit.

    • Inspect and reseal flashing at chimneys, vents and skylights
    • Check attic ventilation so summer heat isn’t baking the shingles
    • Document existing wear now so any post-storm claim is clean

Fall - prep for the next winter

What you do in fall decides how the roof handles the freeze.

    • Clear leaves off the roof and out of the gutters so water can’t back up and freeze
    • Reseal flashing and penetrations ahead of the cold
    • Check attic ventilation and insulation to help prevent ice dams

Winter - watch for trouble between visits

Cold-weather leaks move fast; catching them early keeps the damage small.

    • Watch for ice dams at the eaves and icicles along the gutter line
    • Check the attic for moisture, frost or stains after cold snaps
    • Call at the first sign of a leak - care-plan customers get priority

The Seasonal Care plan follows this calendar, with spring visits for winter damage and fall visits before snow.

    Six-point checklist

What a roof maintenance visit includes.

Every roof maintenance visit runs the same six-point checklist, with small fixes handled on the spot. Our roof maintenance checklist covers DIY checks between visits.

    Shingles, ridge & valleys

Our crew checks shingles, ridge caps and valleys for granule loss, nail pops, lifted tabs and moss.

    Flashing & sealant check

We check flashing and sealant at chimneys, skylights, wall lines and pipe boots, then reseal minor gaps.

    Small fixes on the spot

We reseal and make minor repairs during the visit, so a loose shingle stays a small fix.

    Debris, gutters & downspouts

We clear debris from the roof and valleys and check that gutters and downspouts flow freely.

    Attic ventilation & moisture

We check attic ventilation and look for moisture or frost on the decking, which signal poor airflow or leaks.

    Storm docs & photo report

We document hail bruising and wind damage each visit and leave you a dated photo report with recommendations.

    How it’s priced

How roof maintenance plans are priced.

Buckshot prices every roof maintenance plan to your roof after a free on-site estimate.

    A free estimate

We look over your roof and quote a plan and price for free, and enrolling is your choice.

    Size, pitch & complexity

A big, steep or cut-up roof takes longer to maintain than a simple one, so the plan is priced to match.

    Annual or seasonal

Choose one visit a year or two in spring and fall, and the price follows your coverage.

    Cheaper than the damage

Roof maintenance costs a fraction of water damage, because each visit catches problems before they need a repair.

You get a plan sized to your roof and a dated maintenance history that can support an insurance claim.

    Care plans

Annual and seasonal roof maintenance plans.

Both roof maintenance plans include a dated photo report, and we book every visit.

    Why it pays

Why regular roof upkeep pays off.

Roof maintenance is the cheapest way to reach your roof’s full lifespan, because small fixes stop leaks early.

    Add years to your roof

Fixing lifted shingles and failed sealant early keeps freeze-thaw cycles from turning them into leaks that age the roof.

    Support your warranty

Many manufacturer warranties expect reasonable upkeep, and our dated photo records show the care your roof has received.

    Cheaper than a repair

A maintenance visit costs a fraction of replacing the drywall, insulation and roof decking that a slow leak ruins.

    A storm-ready record

We assess storm and hail damage every visit, so you have a dated record that can support an insurance claim later.

A roof maintenance plan keeps small problems small on new roofs, aging roofs and roofs with past leaks.

When the big storms came through the Madison-area in April 2026, I immediately started looking for a reputable roofer—who also understood the importance of weather-resistant materials that can withstand hail and wind. It didn’t take me long to find Brad from BCG. We had damage that needed to be repaired before the next round of storms came through later that day and Brad had a crew out within hours. Our neighbors also had damage, and when their roofing company didn’t show up, Brad and his crew also took on fixing their damage on the spot. The contracting process was done over email and we were able to clearly understand all of the options available to us. On the day of install, the crew was efficient and fast with their work. But also, mistakes can happen. And what matters to us is not that there’s perfection (because that’s not realistic), but how a contractor deals with a mistake. As they were taking down the tarps when they were finished with the roof, one of our lights next to the garage broke. Brad helped find a replacement online and had it shipped directly to our house! Such great service! All in all, we were very happy with Brad and the service we received from him and BCG. We’ve since recommended their services to several of our friends and neighbors who also had storm damage. While I hope we won’t have to do that again for a long time, we would work with BCG again in a heartbeat!

I am extremely pleased with the service Matt Walmer from Buckshot General Contracting (BGC) provided for me during the hailstorm damage in Madison in April. I had just switched insurance companies one year ago and was worried about how much they would cover. Matt assured me everything would be taken care of and had nothing to worry about. True to his word he immediately answered phone calls during off hours even when he was with daughter at volleyball and answering texts in seconds Matt met up with assessor and arrived 20 minutes early. During roof replacement he stopped in 3 times to check the progress and next day he came back to do a walk around to make sure the cleanup was to his standards. I have been so blessed to work with Matt at BGC as my contractor as everything went so smoothly. No problems with my insurance company and I was the first one on my block to get my roof done. I also was telling Matt about some of my neighbors having problems with their insurance and he was willing to look at their paperwork and giving them advice on how to deal with them. I can proudly say I announced to them how good Matt was and gave them his card. Thank you so much Matt for your excellent service and being a great representative for Buckshot General Contracting. These days days it’s hard to find a business that is 100% committed to making sure the customer is their #1 concern. Going to be doing more work and sticking with them as I know it will be top quality.

We contacted BGC after storm damage and had them completely re-roof and re-side our house, garage, and shed. The entire process was incredibly smooth from start to finish. They were easy to work with, handled all the details, and made what could have been a stressful situation completely worry-free. Our contact, Jayce Kirkland, was outstanding. His professionalism, communication, and courteous demeanor were truly a breath of fresh air. He took care of everything for us and made sure the project stayed on track every step of the way. We couldn’t be happier with the experience and have and would highly recommend BGC to anyone needing roofing or siding work!
