    How people payThree honest paths

Three honest ways Marshall homeowners handle a roof

A new roof does not have to mean one big check. Depending on what we find, one of these paths usually fits.

    Storm damage
InsuranceIf a storm did the damage, we document it and walk the claim so you pay your deductible, not the whole roof.
A roof that is simply due
FinancingWhen it is age, not a storm, we offer financing including zero-percent plans on approved credit through Service Finance Company.
    Not ready this year
Repair firstIf the roof has life left, a targeted repair or ventilation fix can buy you a few more seasons before you replace.

We lay out whichever paths apply to your roof and let you decide. There is no pressure to pick the biggest job.

    What goes wrongMarshall roof failure

What actually wears out a Marshall roof

Aging builder shinglesNewer subdivision homes are hitting the end of their first roof, often a whole street around the same time.
Moss & algaeShaded, humid lots near the river grow moss that lifts shingle edges and holds moisture on north slopes.
Frequent hailThe Madison area sees some of Wisconsin’s highest hail exposure, and the ice strips granules and dents flashing, vents and gutters.
Straight-line windStorms off the surrounding farm country lift and tear shingles at the ridges and edges.
Ice damsUnder-ventilated older attics melt snow unevenly, and the ice at the eaves forces water under the shingles.
Hidden slow leaksTree-shaded older homes hide leaks around chimneys and valleys until a ceiling stain finally shows.

    How we buildLayer by layer

Built for Wisconsin, layer by layer

A roof is a system, not just shingles. Every Marshall roof we install is built to handle ice dams, wind and hail, from the deck up.

Decking inspected on bare wood before anything goes back on, so soft spots get replaced.
Ice & water shield at eaves and valleys, the local ice-dam defense.
GAF Timberline HDZ & UHDZ with StainGuard algae resistance and LayerLock high-wind nailing.
Camelot II available for a designer slate look.
Synthetic underlayment, ridge cap, drip edge and new pipe-boot flashing throughout.
Balanced attic ventilation so heat and moisture do not cook the roof from below.
    Repair or replaceThe honest answer

    Repair it or replace it?

This is where honesty counts most. In Marshall the call depends on the roof’s age, any storm damage, and whether a repair genuinely buys you time.

What we find on your Marshall roofWhat we usually recommend
One leak at a valley, chimney or vent, roof otherwise soundTargeted repair
A few wind-lifted shingles after a stormTargeted repair
Moss or algae on shaded slopes, shingles still soundClean or treat
Widespread hail or wind damage documented for a claimInsurance replacement
Builder shingles past 18 to 22 years, curling or baldFull replacement

When the big storms came through the Madison-area in April 2026, I immediately started looking for a reputable roofer—who also understood the importance of weather-resistant materials that can withstand hail and wind. It didn’t take me long to find Brad from BCG. We had damage that needed to be repaired before the next round of storms came through later that day and Brad had a crew out within hours. Our neighbors also had damage, and when their roofing company didn’t show up, Brad and his crew also took on fixing their damage on the spot. The contracting process was done over email and we were able to clearly understand all of the options available to us. On the day of install, the crew was efficient and fast with their work. But also, mistakes can happen. And what matters to us is not that there’s perfection (because that’s not realistic), but how a contractor deals with a mistake. As they were taking down the tarps when they were finished with the roof, one of our lights next to the garage broke. Brad helped find a replacement online and had it shipped directly to our house! Such great service! All in all, we were very happy with Brad and the service we received from him and BCG. We’ve since recommended their services to several of our friends and neighbors who also had storm damage. While I hope we won’t have to do that again for a long time, we would work with BCG again in a heartbeat!

I am extremely pleased with the service Matt Walmer from Buckshot General Contracting (BGC) provided for me during the hailstorm damage in Madison in April. I had just switched insurance companies one year ago and was worried about how much they would cover. Matt assured me everything would be taken care of and had nothing to worry about. True to his word he immediately answered phone calls during off hours even when he was with daughter at volleyball and answering texts in seconds Matt met up with assessor and arrived 20 minutes early. During roof replacement he stopped in 3 times to check the progress and next day he came back to do a walk around to make sure the cleanup was to his standards. I have been so blessed to work with Matt at BGC as my contractor as everything went so smoothly. No problems with my insurance company and I was the first one on my block to get my roof done. I also was telling Matt about some of my neighbors having problems with their insurance and he was willing to look at their paperwork and giving them advice on how to deal with them. I can proudly say I announced to them how good Matt was and gave them his card. Thank you so much Matt for your excellent service and being a great representative for Buckshot General Contracting. These days days it’s hard to find a business that is 100% committed to making sure the customer is their #1 concern. Going to be doing more work and sticking with them as I know it will be top quality.

We contacted BGC after storm damage and had them completely re-roof and re-side our house, garage, and shed. The entire process was incredibly smooth from start to finish. They were easy to work with, handled all the details, and made what could have been a stressful situation completely worry-free. Our contact, Jayce Kirkland, was outstanding. His professionalism, communication, and courteous demeanor were truly a breath of fresh air. He took care of everything for us and made sure the project stayed on track every step of the way. We couldn’t be happier with the experience and have and would highly recommend BGC to anyone needing roofing or siding work!

    Marshall roofing questions, answered straight

Want an honest look before you spend a dollar? Call and talk it through with a real person, no call center.

    Call (608) 909-9109
Q.01 Will you tell me honestly if I do not need a full roof?

Yes. A lot of Marshall homeowners work to a budget, and the last thing you need is to be pushed into a replacement you do not need yet. Our free inspection comes back in writing with photos, and if a targeted repair or a ventilation fix buys you a few more seasons, that is what we will tell you.

Q.02 Do you offer financing on a replacement?

Yes. When a roof does need replacing and it is not a storm claim, we offer financing options, including zero-percent plans on approved credit through Service Finance Company, so the cost can be spread out. We lay out the paths, insurance, financing or a repair to buy time, and let you decide.

Q.03 My home is older and near the river. Anything different?

Homes near downtown and the Maunesha River tend to be older, with more tree cover and humidity, which grows algae and moss on shaded slopes and can hide slow leaks. Older attics also tend to be under-ventilated. We check the shaded slopes, the attic and the flashing, not just the shingle surface.

Q.04 Do the newer Marshall subdivisions need roofs already?

Many are getting there. The newer homes built as Marshall grew are now old enough that the first builder-grade shingles are wearing out, often across a whole street at once. These are usually straightforward replacements, and a good time to upgrade the ventilation and the shingle line.

Q.05 Are you local to Marshall, or do you travel here?

Marshall is inside our Dane County service area. Our shop is on Madison’s north side, a short drive southwest, and we work the northeast Dane County towns every week. Call (608) 909-9109 for a free inspection and we will confirm scheduling for your address.
