    Truly localWhat it means here

What a genuinely local roofer means for Dane

In a village this size, near enough to matter, local is not a slogan. It is the difference in how a roof job actually goes.

Faster storm response, because Dane sits minutes from our core DeForest and Windsor territory, not hours away like an out-of-state crew.
We are here for the warranty, a Wisconsin company since 1979, not a truck that leaves the county once the insurance check clears.
A small job gets the same care, the same GAF Master Elite crew and materials whether it is a repair or a full farmhouse roof.
Honest written inspections, so you are never talked into a replacement you do not need, with the findings in photos.
We know this weather, the north-county hail and open-field wind that hit Dane, because we work in it every week.
The outbuildings too, barns, sheds and pole buildings quoted alongside the house in one visit.
    What goes wrongDane roof failure

What actually wears out a Dane roof

Frequent hailThe Madison area sees some of Wisconsin’s highest hail exposure, and the ice strips granules and dents flashing, vents and gutters.
Open-field windWide farmland and few windbreaks let straight-line winds hit homes full force and peel shingles at the edges.
Aging farmhouse roofsOlder rural homes and outbuildings often run their roofs well past their prime before anyone calls.
Ice damsWinter melt refreezes at the eaves of an under-ventilated attic and forces water back under the shingles.
Exposed outbuildingsBarns, sheds and pole buildings catch the same hail and wind and often need attention with the house.
Storm chasersOut-of-state crews target small villages, collect the check and leave the warranty behind them.

    How we buildLayer by layer

Built for Wisconsin, layer by layer

A roof is a system, not just shingles. Every Dane roof we install is built to handle ice dams, wind and hail, from the deck up.

Decking inspected on bare wood before anything goes back on, so soft spots get replaced.
Ice & water shield at eaves and valleys, the local ice-dam defense.
GAF Timberline HDZ & UHDZ with StainGuard algae resistance and LayerLock high-wind nailing.
Camelot II available for a designer slate look.
Synthetic underlayment, ridge cap, drip edge and new pipe-boot flashing throughout.
Balanced attic ventilation so heat and moisture do not cook the roof from below.
    Repair or replaceThe honest answer

    Repair it or replace it?

In Dane the honest call usually turns on the last storm and the roof’s age, meaning how much hail or wind got to it, and how much life the shingles had left.

What we find on your Dane roofWhat we usually recommend
A section of wind-lifted shingles, roof otherwise soundTargeted repair
Loose edge metal or flashing after a windy spellTargeted repair
Light, scattered hail marks on a newer roofTargeted repair
Widespread hail or wind damage documented for a claimInsurance replacement
Shingles past 18 to 22 years, curling or granule-bareFull replacement
Repeat ice-dam leaks and an under-ventilated atticReplacement + ventilation

The free inspection covers the house, the attic and any outbuildings you want looked at, and you get the answer in writing with photos before deciding anything.

When the big storms came through the Madison-area in April 2026, I immediately started looking for a reputable roofer—who also understood the importance of weather-resistant materials that can withstand hail and wind. It didn’t take me long to find Brad from BCG. We had damage that needed to be repaired before the next round of storms came through later that day and Brad had a crew out within hours. Our neighbors also had damage, and when their roofing company didn’t show up, Brad and his crew also took on fixing their damage on the spot. The contracting process was done over email and we were able to clearly understand all of the options available to us. On the day of install, the crew was efficient and fast with their work. But also, mistakes can happen. And what matters to us is not that there’s perfection (because that’s not realistic), but how a contractor deals with a mistake. As they were taking down the tarps when they were finished with the roof, one of our lights next to the garage broke. Brad helped find a replacement online and had it shipped directly to our house! Such great service! All in all, we were very happy with Brad and the service we received from him and BCG. We’ve since recommended their services to several of our friends and neighbors who also had storm damage. While I hope we won’t have to do that again for a long time, we would work with BCG again in a heartbeat!

I am extremely pleased with the service Matt Walmer from Buckshot General Contracting (BGC) provided for me during the hailstorm damage in Madison in April. I had just switched insurance companies one year ago and was worried about how much they would cover. Matt assured me everything would be taken care of and had nothing to worry about. True to his word he immediately answered phone calls during off hours even when he was with daughter at volleyball and answering texts in seconds Matt met up with assessor and arrived 20 minutes early. During roof replacement he stopped in 3 times to check the progress and next day he came back to do a walk around to make sure the cleanup was to his standards. I have been so blessed to work with Matt at BGC as my contractor as everything went so smoothly. No problems with my insurance company and I was the first one on my block to get my roof done. I also was telling Matt about some of my neighbors having problems with their insurance and he was willing to look at their paperwork and giving them advice on how to deal with them. I can proudly say I announced to them how good Matt was and gave them his card. Thank you so much Matt for your excellent service and being a great representative for Buckshot General Contracting. These days days it’s hard to find a business that is 100% committed to making sure the customer is their #1 concern. Going to be doing more work and sticking with them as I know it will be top quality.

We contacted BGC after storm damage and had them completely re-roof and re-side our house, garage, and shed. The entire process was incredibly smooth from start to finish. They were easy to work with, handled all the details, and made what could have been a stressful situation completely worry-free. Our contact, Jayce Kirkland, was outstanding. His professionalism, communication, and courteous demeanor were truly a breath of fresh air. He took care of everything for us and made sure the project stayed on track every step of the way. We couldn’t be happier with the experience and have and would highly recommend BGC to anyone needing roofing or siding work!

    FAQDane roofing

    Dane roofing questions, answered straight

Storm just came through, or a farmhouse and outbuildings due for a look? Call and talk it through with a real person, no call center.

    Call (608) 909-9109
Q.01 Is a small village like Dane really in your service area?

Very much so. Dane sits in north Dane County, minutes from DeForest and Windsor, which are core territory for us, and a short drive from our Madison shop. A small village is not an afterthought for Buckshot; we treat a roof in Dane the same as any other. Call (608) 909-9109 for a free inspection.

Q.02 Does the village of Dane get much hail?

Yes. The Madison area records among the highest numbers of hail reports in Wisconsin, and the open farm country north of Madison, where the village sits, is in that zone. Hail strips granules off shingles and dents flashing, vents and gutters. It is often hard to see from the ground, so a free photo inspection tells you whether a claim makes sense.

Q.03 Do you roof farmhouses and outbuildings around Dane?

Yes. The area around the village is open farmland, and many properties are farmhouses and rural homes with barns, machine sheds, pole buildings and detached garages. We roof the house and can quote the outbuildings in the same visit, and we handle the larger, older roofs common on farm properties.

Q.04 How do I avoid the storm chasers that hit small towns?

After a big storm, out-of-state crews canvass small villages like Dane, collect the insurance check and leave, and the warranty leaves with them. Buckshot is a Wisconsin roofer, family-owned since 1979 and GAF Master Elite, and we are still here long after the job. Getting a local inspection first is the simplest protection.

Q.05 Does open farmland wind damage Dane roofs?

Yes. With open fields on every side and few windbreaks, straight-line winds build speed and hit homes at full force, lifting and tearing shingles at the exposed ridges, edges and gable ends. After a windstorm we look there first and document any damage with photos for an insurance claim.
